Hot On The Trail
The Alabama Rig has created a buzz in the fishing world like no other bait in recent history. The Flw Open on Lake Guntersville started the whirlwind rise to fame for this new bait. Paul Elias caught an amazing 102lbs-8ozs. to win the tournament by 17lbs.. The second time the A-rig hit the news was at the FLW Everstart Championship where Dan Morehead used it to take the win on Kentucky Lake. Every fishing chatroom and forum were filled with fans and people that think it should be banned. Only time will tell if the A-rig is a lure to be used all year or just in fall when the shad are in big schools.
Ready to go!
The 2012 season is approaching fast with tournaments starting in February. My first tournament will be at Lake Hartwell in Greenville/ Anderson SC March 8th-11th. This is the first of the six FLW Tour Majors. I am excited to continue representing APR Rods and JJ's Magic along with some new companies: The Bass College, Faculty of Fishing, Dirty Jigs Tackle, Grandebass Trophy Hunter Baits, Assassinator Baits, Moaner Hooks, and Typhoon Optics. My first FLW tournament as a professional was a great learning experience. I spent countless hours preparing for the Everstart northern division Potomac River Tournament. I had some past experience fishing the Potomac to use as a starting point. I did a lot of homework on the computer and contacted a few friends to get any information that I could. But I knew that time on the water was going to determine where I was going to fish and how I would finish in this tournament. I spent 10 days on the water in the month before this event and 3 ½ days the week of the tournament.
I was really looking forward to this tournament because I heard it fishes a lot like Kentucky Lake as far as being able to catch good numbers of fish. The one big difference would be the size limit. Pickwick has a 12”minimum for largemouth and spotted bass, and 14” for smallmouth. Kentucky Lake size limit was 15” and 18.” I felt confident that I could catch a limit each day.
